SURFACE
Looking beneath the surface and beyond identities, whilst coherently honouring and acknowledging unique aspects that culturally shape humans. The intention behind this series is to bring to light, the depth which human beings offer and build compassion for differences.
Challenge
As humans, we experience the world vastly in a visual manner. This leads to interpretations based on the information gathered. Similarly, when coming across other human beings, we take this approach forward. Our interpretations can be a way to understand, although cover only the surface.
Solution
Recognizing that humans are shaped by both nature and nurture, the series delves into deeper layers of human existence. Factors such as culture, environment, experiences, genetics, and psychology influence what meets the eye. This portrait series utilizes designs from different cultures, recreated through face paint, to showcase this depth in a human being.
